Bold Colour & Experimental Lighting

Classic lighting and neutral tones will always have a place on photoshoots, but right now, bold colour and unique lighting are what make “scroll stopping” images.

On my latest shoot with Will, I experimented heavily with creative lighting setups to push mood and shape beyond a standard portrait shoot.

The result wasn’t just visually striking, it created images with confidence, edge and impact that both photographers and models are seeking in 2025.

Social media platforms reward high-contrast images, and fashion brands seem to be moving towards images with expression over minimalism.

Colour instantly evokes emotion, attitude and identity. This helps create memorable images to help brands, portfolios and models stand out.

For all the photographers out there, its great to start with one bold element be that colour or dramatic lighting. This can be used to sculpt the subject and not distract. Try not to overthink the lighting too much, set it up, review and then adjust the lighting/posing as needed. Most of all enjoy the creativity and roll with it.

For models, lighting and colour help make you stand out and take your image to the next level. With strong poses, excellent expression and trust the process even if it feels different on set. Work with the photographer, review images as you go and communicate ideas and adjustment. Most of all enjoy the process!
