HEADS UK - Photowalk

Last weekend I went to my first HEADS event. I’ve followed them for a while and wanted to try out one of their events. This event was a Photowalk through Manchester. Basically a bunch of creative, photographer, models, designers, makeup artists, etc meet up and collaborate. It’s great for networking and freshening up your content. I’ve bottled out of attending events before due to nerves/anxiety etc. Thoughts of not being good enough, being too old, or not being liked all played their part in stopping me going. However, this time it was different. I spoke to my husband the week before and said i might not go, giving the reason I said earlier. Chris said its normal to have these feelings, and just go, and if you don’t enjoy it then can just leave and come home!

From posts I’ve seen from past events this was quite a large in numbers. However this event was quite small. We met up at the designated place, and I soon got chatting we other models and photographers. It was soon time to head out, and we were soon on the streets of Manchester. At the first location I wasn’t quite sure how to begin. I just jumped right in asked one of the models if we could get some images. Before I knew it we were soon shooting away, I was giving direction on poses, and missing up my angles etc and all the trepidation I had melted away.

I’m always surprised how, in the majority of cases, the models don’t have any idea of types of shots they want and leave all the creativity to the photographer. One of the models, in this instance, did give details of image styles he’s like when I asked him. This was great, and I tried to incorporate these as we shot.

We moved around Manchester, changing up locations and styles. It’s great watching other photographers working with a model, getting shot ideas you can add to your arsenal, as well as other doing the same when I was shooting.

Eventually it was getting towards the finish time for the meet up and I was starting to feel drained and tired. I’s done all the shots I wanted to do in our current location so decided to call it a day. I exchanged instagram accounts with various models and photographers and said my goodbyes.

I was a great event, and I got some awesome images, and am arranging to have another photoshoot with one of the models in my studio. I will definitely attend another event of theirs, and recommend it to other creatives. If you want to find out more about Heads, then their instagram is @heads_uk, and their website is https://www.headscreative.com , maybe I’ll see you there!
