I’ve entered a competition!
Hi,
Last year I decided to go out and find some sort of photography club or group to join. It’s always good to meet up with like minded people, be able to chat about all things photography and maybe pick up the odd tip or find a new genre shoot.
I began by searching google for Camera Club near me, and found one close by. They met on a convenient night, had a good variety of event from talks to practical, and had a studio setup that members could hire. It sounded just what I was looking for, so I contacted them and arranged to go to their next meeting.
Apart from being a little nervous and apprehensive, which is only natural when going to somewhere new, I was feeling excited. Thankfully it went really well, a good mix of people of various abilities and everyone I spoke to seemed really friendly. To cut a long story short, after attending a couple more time, I decided to join, the yearly joining fee is so low I was really surprised.
As well and talks and practical events the club have various types of competitions that run through out the year, some are digital and some are printed. They have guest judges who come in to judge the entires and mark them out of 20. So far I’ve been pleasantly surprised at how high my marks have been, but have also picked up some great feedback and tips along the way. You never really know how well you’re doing at something like photography until you step into the competition, qualification side of the art. It shouldn’t make any difference to me, as long as my clients like the results, but i’ve been questioning how I stack up against other photographer for a while now, and now I know (I’m not as bad as I thought!).
Next week I’m submitting the below 3 images into a digital competition, I’ll let you know what feed back I get and what marks they scored.
Speak soon,
Mark.
